BENTON, AR -- A little rock school teacher has been charged for his alleged involvement in a shooting that happened early Friday.

Benton Police said when they searched the home of 35-year-old Jason Gaunt(pictured), they found the gun used in the shooting and a marijuana growing operation.

Police say Gaunt helped Timothy Gauldin, 29, shoot himself.  A police spokesman would not elaborate on the circumstances, but neighbors said police told them it was a set-up to draw sympathy from a former romance of Gauldin's.

Saturday, Gaunt was out on bond.  When he answered the door at his Benton home he said the shooting would make more sense as the investigation proceeds.

"We'll just have to wait until the details of that come out," he said.

When asked if he was running a marijuana growing operation, he responded "no I was not."

The bizarre case began early Friday morning when residents in a neighborhood off Northshore Drive heard a terrifying sound.

"We heard a loud gun shot that was so loud it sounded like it was in our backyard," said a woman who spoke on the condition we didn't use her name.

"I heard a man at the front door screaming... saying 'I need help!  I need help!  I been shot!'" she said.

But the people behind the door were too scared to open it until police arrived .

"I'm a nurse so I had incredible guilt not opening my door to help this man," said the woman.

But that guilt turned to anger when she found out police believe Gauldin, who's on parole, shot himself and was aided by Gaunt.

When Benton Police began to believe the shooting was a set up, they searched Gaunt's house and said they found the gun and marijuana operation.

Gaunt has been charged with Furnishing a Firearm to a Convicted Felon, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

At last check, Gauldin was in the hospital listed in serious condition.  Benton police said once he gets well enough to respond, he'll face felony charges.

As of late Saturday night, the Little Rock School District hadn't commented on the status of Gaunt's employment.
