CABOT, AR - Ridout Lumber Company is cleaning up after a fire Tuesday night destroyed hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of inventory in its Cabot store.
The fire started in the warehouse attached to the showroom. The Cabot Fire Department fought the fire for hours Tuesday night. Now, the warehouse is soaking wet. Lumber, paint, chemicals and all kinds of construction supplies are melted, spilled, and covered in soot.
“Because of the embers and coals that develop, the fire sinks down lower while the fire is still burning on top of it so it's difficult to find all the smoking embers underneath," says Phillip Robinson, the Cabot Fire Chief.
"The goal today has been to evaluate this situation which of course this is why you buy insurance and this will all be taken care of," says Ross Ridout, owner of the Ridout Lumber Compnay.
Ridout Lumber Company has been in business for 41 years with 12 other stores to keep operations flowing.
Ridout says it will take months to clean up and restore the business back the way it was before the fire.
Fire investigators spent all day Wednesday on scene, but a the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
