LITTLE ROCK, AR - One man is dead and another is being sought by police after a shooting in Little Rock.

It happened around 11:00 o'clock Tuesday night on Black Jack Court in the Tall Timbers neighborhood off Stagecoach Road.

The shooting victim has been identified as Kelshawn Mouton, 21, and police say the suspect is Donavan Whittington, 20, of Little Rock.

The police report says Mouton was shot to death while trying to defend a woman with whom Whittington was arguing. The woman was Whittington's ex-girlfriend, according to the report. Mouton had been riding in the woman's car with her and another woman when Whittington began following them down Stagecoach Road until they reached Black Jack Court and tried to turn around.

A witness told officers Whittington blocked the way out with his car before getting out of his car. His ex-girlfriend then got out of her car and the two argued, the report said. When Whittington was aggressive toward the woman, Mouton then got out, pulled out a handgun and fired a shot into the air.

That's when Whittington also pulled out a handgun and shot Mouton, the woman told police. She said Mouton told Whittington repeatedly that he wasn't trying to shoot anyone and that he was only defending her. Whittington then fired more shots at Mouton, who fell to the ground. He died at the scene and Whittington drove off, the woman said.

A window of the woman's car had been shot out, as well as the window of a home at 8 Black Jack Court, police said, but no one else was injured.

Mouton's death is the city's 10th homicide of the year.
