Man dies after being shot by robbers

A Little Rock man who was shot during a robbery attempt later died in the hospital, but not from the gunshot wound.

Little Rock police responded to a shooting on West 31st Street late Tuesday night and found the door kicked in and blood leading away from the residence. They discovered 38-year-old Calvin Watson, Sr. lying in the yard with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

According to Lt. Terry Hastings with the Little Rock Police Department, a witness told police that two men kicked in the door and attempted to rob Watson. He was shot during a struggle with the suspects who then fled the scene.

Watson was taken to UAMS but died while being treated for the gunshot wound. Doctors told police that the gunshot wound was not life-threatening. An autopsy is being preformed to determine the cause of death.

Police are investigating the incident as a homicide.
