MURFREESBORO, Ark. (AP) — An Arkansas man accused of kidnapping his wife and chaining her to a tree has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

The Texarkana Gazette reports that John Snavely pleaded no contest in Pike County to aggravated assault and kidnapping. Prosecutors allege that Snavely put a knife to his wife's throat and forced her to sign blank checks.

Authorities claim that Snavely then chained his wife to a tree, put a sock in her mouth and covered it with duct tape and placed a burlap bag over her head. Authorities say Snavely freed the woman the next morning.

Circuit Judge Charles Yeargan sentenced Snavely to six years in prison for aggravated assault and seven years for kidnapping, but said the sentences could run concurrently.

I bet if it had been a stranger he did that to and not his wife, he would have gotten a bigger sentence. Why's it like that? It should be equal justice, shouldn't matter if it's a "domestic" matter.

Hmmm...maybe the guy's cellmate will be given an extra sock, duct tape, and a bag to use on this guy each night.

It's only fare to give this man a light sentence on the grounds he turned her loose. Have a heart people.

The judge ought to have added that, once a week he would be chained to a tree, and the wife (hopefully ex-wife now) would get to go out and beat the ever living s--- out of him.
