PINE BLUFF, AR -- Fifteen-year-old Chaderious Avery spent a year away from family, friends, and school as he served time in jail.

He learned a lot within that time.

"I have more freedom. I can eat when I want to, shower when I want to," Avery said.

He spent some of that time at the Jack Jones Juvenile Justice Center.  It's there where he claims Court Chief of Staff Roderick Shelby beat him. He said he and Shelby went back and worth with words, and all of a sudden, Shelby snapped.

"There may be people who say Chadarious shouldn't have talked to an adult that way. What do you say about that?" I asked.

"I would agree.  I'm a child, and he's an adult. I was hot headed back then," Avery said.

But he said the blows -- that resulted in scrapes and bruises -- were not warranted.

"I don't think he should work with kids anymore, probably work with adults," Avery said.

His mother agrees, which is why she won't drop the civil lawsuit against Shelby.

"When something happens to your child, you don't push it aside. You pursue it because if you don't take care of it, it will happen to the next child," Karen Walls said.

She not only wants Shelby to pay for the attack, but also lose his job.  I went to the court to ask for Shelby, but the receptionist said he had already left for the day.

"I want Shelby away from kids because he doesn't need to be around them," Walls said.

armyofone- A "D" in English? Be careful the English police are out and about. The physical abuse you suffered at the hands of your dad must have been terrible.

It's a thug, not a child. You don't get put in jail for being a good choir boy. Apparently this is the only way the birth "mother" is going to see any money from her thug because he ain't thug enough for pro sports.

If you are in Jail you should get your rear kicked up around the back of your head. "ESPECIALLY if you are a 15 year old male. That is the problem kids need physical punishment. My dad broke a broom across my back when I told him I had a "D" in English.

ther are protocols to follow, just because you are in jail doesnt mean you deserve to be beaten. just because your in jail talking crap to a guard he is supposed follow whatever protocol he agreed to when he took the job. he should be fired and criminal charges should be pressed. if this punk (the adult) cant take being talked bad to by a kid then his mental state is not strong enough for that type of job. send his ass to brickey and let him hit a prisoner he will be gutted like a fish.

hey hoodlums momma let me help you out. your 15 y/o stands up to a man and bucks. he should expect to get knocked in the mouth. he has already been lockedup for a year(to be locked up at 15 he did something bad probably more than a couple of times) tell him next time to shut his pie hole and show respect and that will not happen. if you had taught him that from the start he would not have been in that situation to start with. he would not have let his superman mouth overload his mickey mouse a$$ that is the problem these days. parents let the kids do what they want then cry when they get treated the way they deserve to be treated. with that said if he did not throw the first punch then the officer should be fired. the kid was in that place because he is obviously full of idiot tendacies. the officer is supposed to be the adult.they have policies in place on how to handle the little idiots. 2 idiots does not make a right.

When I was a child, I act like a child and not an adult. My parents kept all of their children in line. This juvenile detention crap is for the birds. Chaderious just should have been in my home back in the 70's-80s. I, thank God today for my parents taking on their repsonsibility for my upbringing and then it being passed on to my children that are grown with children...Parents now, for some reason think that when their children do wrong, it's someone else's fault other than their own. I am a firm believer that discipline starts at home. "PARENTS STOP BEING FRIENDS WITH YOUR CHILDREN AND BE THEIR PARENT"

Maybe momma should have done a better job of raising this reject.I too had a smart mouth at 15 until I met up with a certain LR Police Officer named Fair who threatened to throw me under the jailhouse and throw the key away.I decided it was time to shape up. I never knew his first name but he was J A Fairs brother.

Unless it was self defense the what for makes no difference. They describe this as a beating so that blows the self defense out. But then he is a law enforcement officer so all he had to do was reasonably believe the boy needed the beating and he is in the clear.
