NRA calls for armed police officer in every school

Guns and police officers in all American schools are what's needed to stop the next killer "waiting in the wings," the National Rifle Association declared Friday, taking a no-retreat stance in the face of growing calls for gun control after the Connecticut shootings that claimed the lives of 26 children and school staff.

cmducks - You got a good point. Some of the districts claim they've traded their donuts for bagels and/or bran muffins.

Think4Urself - You said a mouth full. I agre with you 100%. The only thing I can think of that might work as well or better is to put a donut shop in all the schools. Lol!!!!

There are a lot of schools that have Police Officers assigned to them. They're usually referred to as "Resource Officers". I envision our schools looking like prisons before long but as long as they're safe I for one don't care what they look like. There's no excuse for packing hundreds of kids into a school and not providing proper security. As long as we're gonna allow the nuts to run free we need to do more to protect our children. If non-police armed security is used then at least have them go thru the same psych board and polygraph test that the police applicants go thru. We have a lot of well abled men and women in our communities that are ready and willing to help, all we need is some community leaders to take charge and make it happen, stop waiting for the whore mongers in D.C. They're part of the problem and any solutuon they come up with will cost millions and fail like everything else they touch. GBA

Obviously an Associated Press story. After initial NRA report in the first few paragraphs, balance of article is reserved to quote those opposed to the NRA. Slick, AP.

The "more powerful guns than the old ones" statement is a complete lie. they are the same as they were there has not been any new developments in the firearms field except maybe the KRISS. She is as full of it as she has always been. Now as to the story I don't know if you need a Police Officer in all the schools since their training is geared to actually enforcing the law and ins and outs of that. Specialized security officers would be better. Prior service Military could fill this role easily, they are vetted and trained in tactics but would need a little more in the way of VIP protection. Their sole job would be security of the school not dealing with the day to day unruly children. Like many before me have stated for years look towards the Israeli model, like them or not they know somethings learned from years of dealing with attacks.
