PARAGOULD, Ark. (AP) — Police in Paragould have killed a small bull that was found wandering near the Paragould Country Club.

Jonesboro television station KAIT reports that police received multiple calls Sunday from residents who spotted the bull. Police say officers tried to capture the animal and move it into an open field, but the bull continued to walk down U.S. Highway 49.

Authorities say that the animal was cornered in a parking lot near the intersection of U.S. 49 and U.S. 412.

Authorities say they had no choice but to kill the bull because of safety concerns.

quit bashing Andy and Barney - they'd have put a rope 'round the bulls neck and led it home. This is more than lazy - it's criminal. Last century, the LEOs would have known whose brand was on the beef and called the owner. Now, well, maybe they thought they'd cornered one of them dangerous pit bulls.

And if a motorist (unaware of flashing police lights due to texting, cell phone, Ipod, loud radio, drinking, drugs, take your pick) would've hit it and been injured, they would have sued. And won a large settlement that taxpayers would have had to pay. Then, half the post on here would have been hamburger munchers talking about how they should have shot it. A police car with rope would raise eyebrows and concerns. Few of us carry around livestock feed, so they might have had no choice.

Like there aren't plenty of farmers in Paragould who would be happy to have a $1000 bull, for free...Such a waste.

Load of bull is right! All they needed was a cattle trailer, a bucket of corn, a rope, and a couple of individuals that know how to handle cattle. The law should have to pay the owner for what this small bull would have been worth had he been given the opportunity to become fully grown. Cattle ranchers live all over this state; surely Barney and company could have found at least one of them to help out!

Okay, so it was CORNERED, and yet they killed it. That was not necessary at all. Seriously, they could have gotten help and chose not to. Why kill it when all they had to do was to make a phone call for a tranquilizer. They could have just blocked the road so that it didn't get hit by a car, and cause a crash. People would get over it if they were late to whatever meaningless task they had to do, if there was a traffic jam because of a bull walking in the road. I wonder what other cornered animals they kill because they're too lazy to catch it.

Didn't care who owned the bull, just saw a chance for some free meat. Crappy police work and no body cares. Welcome to the new way of the world, like it or not.
