BENTON, AR – A man and a woman were caught Monday afternoon, suspected of burglarizing a home on Holly Drive in Benton.

Benton Police arrived at the home to find that the backdoor had been forced open, but nobody was in the home. Officers in the area found one of the suspects, who ran away from them. After a short chase, Bobby Smith, 37, was apprehended. A little while later Jennifer Brock, 30, was also arrested in connection to the crime.

Police credit a neighbor, who was paying attention and saw the robbery taking place and called police.

Smith is charged with residential burglary, possession of a firearm by a certain person, theft of property, and criminal mischief. Police say Smith is a parolee and had active warrants for his arrest in Saline County.

Brock is charged with residential burglary, theft of property, criminal mischief, and theft of property.

Anyone with information about this burglary is asked to contact the police at 778-1171 or 315-TIPS.

Leatherneck, if you do run for sheriff and win, you will have one huge battle to fight, the same one every law enforcement office has. Getting the justice system to do their job and treat criminals like criminals. Law enforcement can only arrest them, not prosecute them. I wish you the best in your endeavors.

Lady of the hill. One of the reasons I am running for Sheriff in 2014. I get information from the inside and get more info all the time from my contact and from the citizens of Saline County. The problem is, they let run who they want to run for office. The people need to vote these people out. Give me time and I will work to change things. I have a friend in Pennsylvania that is a Constable. He went through the same problem for two years and is just now getting to do his job but still runs into problems. I think the Judges are lazy and don't want to handle very many cases so they don't let them do their jobs. Prosecuting Attorneys don't want to do too much either. Seems to me there are a lot of corrupt lazy people in office.

If Constables and the Sheriff Dept did their job and served warrants maybe this wouldn't have happened. But then of course the prosecuting attorney would have to do his job and then well we could plea deal if you have money. What no money well okay. Go to jail and go on work release and then run away so we don't have to house you. I have a solution to overcrowding. Tents, concertina wire and solar panels to shoot just as much juice to the wire as possible. Bring back the hounds, horses and deputies on horseback earning thier paycheck.

I love it when the jails are full. My friends are warm, well feed, clothed, Medically cared for. I'm beginning to get back to that criminal feelings. I'm to old for the ladies. Tough enough to not have to worry about bubba. Sounds like a good place to retire to to me. At least in there it's easy to spot the punks. They wear blue.

This is my point exactly. The courts need to make examples out of dead beat thieves by giving them a more harsh of a sentence. Stop the plea deals, give them the max, make them serve it all. If they want to piss and moan about the jails being overcrowded, then they should choose to stay the hell out of them. I agree gray, stop a crime, shoot a thief.
