Pangburn & Beebe not too far from each other. Reasonable for snake to travel 30 miles in two years. Maybe that is the same snake! It wasn't that big around, but it almost stretched across the whole two lane road we were on. And - there was NO mistake - it was a rattler. It reared up it's head a good two feet to look at us !!

In 1991, my neighbor killed a 7 1/2ft rattlesnake that was in my horse paddock. I don't know if it was Eastern or Western, but the diamondback pattern & rattles were unmistakable. I believe it weighed 40 lbs, he skinned it & the head was as big as my fist. This was in Carroll County.

A couple of years ago, while driving on a country road in Beebe, a rattler close to that size crossed our path. It stopped on the side of the road when we stopped to see what kind of snake it was. We could not believe our eyes! We just stared at this wonder beside our car for about 5-10 minutes in disbelief. The snake coiled and prepared to strike at our car, then turned and slithered off in a pasture. I wanted to knock on doors of houses in the area to alert nearby residents - never did - I guess we were in a hurry or something that day. But I will never forget it - the biggest rattler I have seen my whole life.

I'm gonna say the snake is in the 5 to 6 foot range. It's being held closer to the camera to appear larger. Notice the snake is in better focus than the man. Use Internet Explorer and zoom in 550% and take a gook look. It is a lot closer to the camera.

C. adamanteus, St. Louis zoo. This is the largest rattlesnake species and, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, is the heaviest venomous snake. The heaviest known specimen, measuring 7.8 feet (2.4 m) in length, was shot in 1946 and weighed 15.4 kilograms (34 lb).[6] Maximum reported lengths are 8 feet (2.4 m)[7] and 8.25 feet (2.5 m).[8] However, the stated maximum sizes have been called into question due to a lack of voucher specimens.[9][10]
