Monday night, one-hundred people gathered to celebrate the life of a man who died in a shooting at his employer's home in Ward in 2012. Ernest Hoskins would have turned 22 years old Tuesday.

The attorney for Hoskins' family announced Monday that a special prosecutor would be appointed to the case. For the first time Monday night, the community also heard from a woman who witnessed the November 2012 shooting.

“It could’ve been any of our sons. It could’ve been any of our sons. When I think of other clients, like Trayvon Martin, that we represent in other parts of the country, we have to remember that this is about all of us,” says the Hoskins' attorney, Benjamin Crump.

Crump has also represented Martin's family.

Christopher Reynolds is accused of pointing a loaded gun at Hoskins. According to the police report, instead of uncocking it, it went off and shot Hoskins in the face. Rachel Watson, who used to work for Reynolds, says it all unfolded in front of her eyes.

"I’m gonna try everything I can to help with the family and the friends. It’s all I can do,” says Watson.

Monday, she did not talk about what happened the day of the shooting. She only added that she met Hoskins 15 minutes before he was shot.

The Hoskins family hopes the news of a special prosecutor being appointed to the case will bring them the justice they’re looking for.

“You want to say it was a mistake, but there is no mistake when you get a gun and point it at a man’s face,” says widow Nikki Hoskins.

Reynolds posted bond and got out of jail in November.

The appointment of a special prosecutor means, according to the Hoskins family attorney, that the first degree murder and assault charges levied against Reynolds last year are just recommendations. The special prosecutor could announce other charges and will announce official charges.

The next time I get pulled over, I am going to claim it was because I am white. The next time some business, city, entity or someone else wrongs me, I'm going to claim its because I am white. The next time someone takes to long to do something for me, I am going to claim its because Im white. I am so sick and f'ing tired of this race card bullshat. The prosecutor didnt file charges soon enough against a white man who shot a black man, so now it is because of the race issues. You know what, you f'ing idiots. Would you want the prosecutor to rush the job, file the charges only to have some POS defense attorney beat them? No, you would not. But since it was a white vs. black crime, its all about the racism. Give the race card a rest would ya? It ruined any chance of true justice in the Trayvon Martin case, hope it doesnt in this one.

Speaking of Ms. Ward; the "special prosecutor" didn't do her any good, or her family. Neither did the ASP investigator. But God will take care of things when the time comes for the murderer, and all those that helped cover it up! All those scumbags can count on it!

I thought the ASP came in and said it was murder. Am I mistaken? The special prosecutor is needed for one reason; Lonoke is dirty to the core, and the murderer has connections obviously. Hope he gets what he deserves. This stinks just like the Ms. Ward case some 20 years ago.

Crump referring to the family of Trayvon Martin as a client is a pitiful grasp at trying to gain some type of sympathy. I hope this does not turn into the joke that the Trayvon Martin case turned into.

You are right. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth too. All I want is the justice afforded to all citizens of this country. Not a built up sideshow. A young man lost his life and the killer should be punished. Yes. So tell me why it rates a special prosecutor. Are we going for something special in sentence. That is against the law. Laws are written for all. To be enforced equal. If you don't think justice is fair stop breaking the law stupid people.

You know this is a sad case. I think most of you know my stand on racism too. My main question is would there have been a special prosecutor if the race was reversed. I hardly think so. Charge should be tougher. I agree. I still see nothing that should require the extra tax dollar. We elect people to do this. Let them do their job.

I would have been there if I had known you were going to be there. I live in this area and this was such a tragedy that should have never happened.I wish his friends and family peace. Best of luck!
