Teen killed, 4 injured in south Arkansas wreck

SMACKOVER, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say one teen was killed and four others injured after a single-vehicle wreck early Christmas Eve in Union County.

Arkansas State Police say the wreck happened near U.S. 167 in Union County at about 1 a.m. Monday. A preliminary report says a 16-year-old girl was driving a Ford Explorer and veered off the road.

A passenger in the SUV, 18-year-old Gage Shoffner of Smackover, was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police say the teen driver and three others - a 15-year-old, a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old - were injured and taken to a hospital in El Dorado.

The police report does not say why the SUV left the roadway.

MOMS.....I JUST HOPE THESE KIDS WERE NOT OUT JUST HAVING A "GOOD TIME"...MAYBE ON THE WAY TO FAMILY. If they were just having "fun" WHERE WERE YOU? What were they doing out at this time of the morning?..13 to 18? At any rate...I am very sorry for all involved. that 16 yr. old girl has a lot to live with.
