Update: Investigation Continues after Officer-Involved Shooting in Clark Co.

According to the Clark County Sheriff, the incident happened around 5 p.m. Thursday.

ARKADELPHIA, AR -- Around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Arkadelphia police officers pursued a vehicle through Arkadelphia and across the Ouachita river on Highway 51.

Near the Joan community in Clark County, the driver of the vehicle lost control and the vehicle stopped.

Officers say as they approached the vehicle, a woman exited the vehicle with a rifle in her hands and pointed it toward the officers.

The woman refused to drop the rifle and was shot by an Arkadelphia police officer.

The woman was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Little Rock.

Her condition and the extent of her injuries have not been released.

Special agents of the Arkansas State Police are conducting an investigation.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

CLARK COUNTY, AR -- An officer-involved shooting has occurred approximately 20 miles south of Malvern.

According to the Clark County Sheriff, the incident happened around 5 p.m. Thursday.

Law enforcement officials say a police pursuit started in Arkadelphia, then stretched out near the town of Joan, where a woman was shot by an Arkadelphia Police officer.

She was taken to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
