BENTON, AR -- Eyewitness reports indicate someone was hit on the interstate, causing a major traffic jam on the eastbound lanes of I-30 Monday night.

Arkansas State Police confirm they were working an accident at Exit 116 just west of Benton.

Fire crews sprayed down the closed interstate around 10pm while traffic rerouted on the access roads. A Greyhound bus sat on the side of the interstate and a tow truck loaded an ambulance on  the scene just before the lanes reopened after 10:30pm.

An employee at a Shell station near the scene says he called 911 for two men who ran inside the store frantically saying a relative was hit by a car while trying to walk across I-30. Witnesses say the two men then walked back across the interstate.

Arkansas State Police are investigating the accident.
