Statement from the Russellville School District:

Today Russellville School District bus #57 was involved in a weather related accident in which the bus slid off the road, into the ditch and tilted over against a tree. No other vehicles were involved. Seven students were on the bus at the time of the accident. Four of the seven were released to their parents immediately. Three students were examined, treated, and released by hospital emergency room medical personnel. All injuries were considered minor. The driver of the bus was also examined and released.

Update:
The Pope County Sheriff says three students and the bus driver were taken to St. Mary's Hospital for examination and treatment of minor injuries.

It was originally believed that 10 students were on the bus, which was driving on Alaskan Trail in Russellville when it hit some ice driving down a hill, lost control and drifted into a tree.

Although the bus has been removed from the road, the Sheriff says Alaskan Trail will be closed for at least the remainder of the evening due to the dangerous driving conditions.

The Sheriff says those who live on Alaskan Trail will still be able to get to their homes, but those who use the road as a shortcut should find a different route.

Original Story:

This hill they had to encounter is as steep as a cows face.Russellville let out about 20 minutes early.I graduated from Lamar and think they are more concerned. There is not a price tag for human life or safety.
