Tuesday night, Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas announced violent crime is down four-percent citywide year-to-year.

Overall, crime is slightly up. Thomas presented the numbers at Tuesday's Board of Director's meeting.

City directors want to see fewer overall crimes, and more officers on the streets.

Little Rock has had more murders so far this year than any year since 2008.

Robberies and larcenies are also on the rise.

Tuesday night, Mayor Mark Stodola mentioned he met with the other mayors from Pulaski County and they plan on proposing a way to help fund the new beds at the jail by early next week.

32 new police officers hit the streets in December. Then, another training class starts in December, putting those officers on the force in May. A third class in July should get the department back up to being fully staffed.

you are right about some of the things you say but the thing im sayng is the department an the citys way of thinking is notto use them to patrol where people live or even bussiness but to gain more revenue by haveing more cops to set up sped traps i saw a few years back an elction passed raise taxes to fight crime an a month later a story on t v on the ew crime fighting cops on duty on camera shooting radar wake up police we want our homes an family protected not more tickets given out there sense of whats important needs to be changed thats not why we pay taxes an we got to many police posing for tv the news is likeing watching the show cops on sat. nite

duke5555....The cops need the abililty to get to a crime scene much faster. The only way I know to do that is have more of them. If there is a robbery in progress, unless the thug is real stupid, they will be long gone in 5 minutes...That's pretty hard to beat. If they stumble, maybe 10 min....IT MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL that they are getting away with so much. It also makes me angry that the police have so many "public service" duties. dammmm

pat they do need more cops but instead of usingthem to stop crime they would give them 100 radar guns to give out more tickets they dont care who gets robbed or if your house gets broken into or your car all they will do show up much later take report an file it but look at this way with more cops day light donuts would do a good bussiness crime is just as bad in saline county ar but cops are worse than little rock

Someone commented about SWLR...yep, it is like a pile of dangerous cockroaches...but it goes all the way out Chenal and at Hillcrest, all out Markham, Stiff Station....it's all over...I don't know where our Chief came from, but if he thinks our crime is down he must have come from helllll.

Violent crime may be down....WHAT DO YOU CALL IT WHEN OFFICERS ARE AFTER ABOUT 30 MEN PER SHIFT who are waving guns or firing them....going into groups of these nuts to break them up. Every NITWIT out there who thinks they are a thug is carrying a GUN. It is a miracle that these idiots don't kill an officer a day, and the officers are respectful to them and never threaten to fire on them when they are chasing them on foot. It's crazy how these THUGS have run out town down.

I don't believe for a minute that crime is down in Little Rock. We need a big concrete building to house about 10000 inmates and take them all off the street. THEN CRIME WILL GO DOWN. WHEN THEY FIND OUT THERE IS "ROOM IN THE INN". and yes we need those 100 new officers NOW. We need 100 more police cars too. If the powers that be would be smart and ask us for money for the right things they would probably get it instead of tacking the library or some other frivilous bs onto a salary for police or a new building...THREATENING TO PUT VIOLENT CRIMINALS OUT ON THE STREET, when they have a load of nonviolent criminals in jail. My blood is boiling. I am afraid to go to the store, afraid to leave my house unguarded and afraid to be at home.

i agree that this is not accurate, sexual assaults must not be counted as violent. they have more than doubled in the so called "good neighborhoods" those sick perverted scumbags need to be put to death!!! its every day if its not a teacher or a coach its a uncle or a dad even females sexually assaulting young men. These people act like they are not criminals and they are the worst!!! preying on children. these type of people deserve a slow death.

I think what he means is that the LRPD think that violent crimes are down, so they don't bother to patrol or be visible in public to possibly thwart some of this crazy stuff that is happening!
