2014 Race for the Cure is Oct. 4
LITTLE ROCK, AR - “Move. Be Moved.” That's the theme for the 2014 Race for the Cure coming up on Oct. 4. Organizers say the theme encourages everyone to participate in fighting the disease.
Breast cancer survivors, volunteers, and community leaders gathered in the lobby of Simmons First National Bank Tower Tuesday morning to announce details of the 21st annual event in downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock.
The 5K Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. at S. Arch St & W. Capitol Ave and finishes at W. 3rd St & Center Street. The Arkansas Affiliate announced a new route (see attached) for the 2014 Race. The route will be implemented as a result of planned construction on the Broadway Bridge.
The goal is to raise $1.6 million this year through the various Race for the Cure® events, according to race chair Ashley Hurst.
“The 2013 Race raised $1.6 million, allowing the Arkansas Affiliate to award $1 million in grants for breast cancer education programs, screenings and treatments in Arkansas,” Hurst said. “$340,000 supported national research to find better treatments, medicines, and developments for a cure.”
The Arkansas Race for the Cure® is one of the largest Komen events across the national series. Last year’s Race attracted 35,000 participants, including survivors and their supporters, team members and more than 3,000 Three Miles of Men® participants lining the course.
