Arkansas Baptist College Misses Court Date Amid Financial Troubles
Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock
LITTLE ROCK, AR - Arkansas Baptist College (ABC) is being held in contempt of court for not handing over financial documents as ordered.
RRE Reserves, a company that owns apartment complexes in Little Rock, is suing the college.
A hearing was set for Wednesday, but representatives from the school did not show up for court.
RRE leased apartment units to ABC for student housing.
The company claims the school owes more than 72-thousand dollars in rent and other fees.
In a statement, the school says missing the court date was an oversight, and will not happen again.
Here's the full ABC statement:
Arkansas Baptist College inadvertantly missed a court date regarding a vendor payment issue. We were unable to connect with the reporter from the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, but at no time did we avoid members of the media.
The media wrongfully implied that Arkansas Baptist College is in jeopardy of losing its accreditation. This is not accurate. We have cooperated with the Higher Learning Commission regarding our financial challenges that resulted from recent federal funding changes. This issue is completely unrelated to the above-mentioned legal action that is nearing resolution with said vendor.
It is important for the community to know that Arkansas Baptist College has a cash flow issue, not a financial problem. We are committed to our students and employees and the education that we provide, and we will honor our financial obligations. We have every intention of returning to solid financial footing in the days ahead.
Again, we apologize to Judge Mackie Pierce for missing our court date yesterday. This was an oversight, and it will not happen again.
