Benton Police: Suspect Breaking Into Vehicles Caught in the Act

- BENTON, AR - Benton Police have arrested one man, and are searching for another in connection with a robbery on Aug. 17.

At 2:44 a.m., officers with the Benton Police Department were sent to a home in the Miller Cove area on a report of a possible breaking or entering in progress.

When officers arrived, they found an unoccupied truck sitting in the street with the lights on. Police later discovered it had been reported stolen.

Along with the truck, police found the homeowner's vehicle with a broken window and later discovered items had been stolen out of it.

A neighbor noticed somebody hiding in some bushes by a house and told officers, who then took him into custody.

The suspect is identified as Gregory Pointer, 48, of Jacksonville. Police say they found marijuana and other drug items on Pointer.

Police charged the man with Breaking or Entering, Theft by Receiving, Theft of Property, Criminal Mischief, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Additionally, he is an active parolee out of the Arkansas Department of Community Correction and also had an active warrant from that agency.

There was another suspect working with Pointer during this crime who wasn't found. Police are still looking for the accomplice.
