Big Rock Interchange Prepares for More Closures

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Little Rock's largest interchange is changing again.

Some lanes of the I-430 and I-630 interchange also known as Big Rock will be closed overnight within the month.

During that time workers will be painting the bridges, beams and travel lanes as well as removing the wooden decking and safety platforms under some of the completed overpasses.

Once that work is done, three parts of the interchange will open including the Flyover for 430 north and 630 east, an access road near Baptist Health and the Shakleford Road overpass.

"That will put traffic in a new area, it will allow us to take out some of the temporary pavement that's been in place that's had to handle traffic through the construction," said Randy Ort with the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.

According to highway and transportation officials, that work will be completed in the next two to three months.

Officials say the interchange is a balance between safety and mobility and will be easier to navigate.

The entire project is expected to be done in eight months.
