On Monday, Michael Conklin, 26, appeared for a bond hearing on capital murder and felony theft charges. He was booked into the Benton County Jail Saturday after a four day man hunt led to his capture in Saline County.
On July 20, the Bentonville Police Department began an investigation into the suspicious death of 76-year-old Nelma Darline Conklin.
Police received a call of about a welfare concern at 3300 SW Elm Manor Drive. The caller said 76-year-old Nelma Darline Conklin had not been to work for about one week. When officers went to check on her, they found Conklin dead inside the house. Preliminary findings by the Arkansas State Crime Lab autopsy ruled the death a homicide.
Conklin’s grandson, Michael, had been living at the house with her.
Police also located Nelma Conklin’s car, a silver 2013 Ford Focus, with the suspect.
