Conway Police: Suspect Dies after Stabbing Wife, Holding Child Hostage

CONWAY, AR - A man arrested this morning in a hostage situation has died after being taken to the hospital with a stab wound.

The Conway Police Department says Branagen Davis, 28, attacked his wife with a box cutter inside a home in the 1400 block of Arden Lane.

Conway Police and SWAT answered a call about a domestic disturbance at the home around 10:30 Tuesday morning.

At the scene they found a woman who had been stabbed several times. She reported that her husband attacked her with a box cutter and that he was still inside the house with their 2-year-old son.

SWAT mobilized and tried to contact Davis but he did not answer the phone or a knock at the door. Officers determined the child was in a separate room in the house from the suspect, went inside and brought him out.

A short time later officers found Davis and brought him out. That’s when emergency personnel discovered he had a stab wound to the chest. He was taken to Conway Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Police say Davis' wife told them he had been acting weird and when she confronted him about his behavior he attacked her. She reported that during the attack she was able to defend herself by stabbing Davis with a piece of broken glass.

Detectives are now trying to determine if Davis died from a stab wound and if that wound was self-inflicted or a result of the victim defending herself.

The woman remains in the hospital tonight for treatment of her injuries. Her son was not hurt in the incident and is staying with relatives.
