Circuit Judge Cindy Thyer of Jonesboro followed the jury’s recommendation and sentenced Northern to 41 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.
Ellington said Northern has previous felony convictions and his sentence was enhanced as a habitual offender. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Curtis Walker of Blytheville presented the case on behalf of the State of Arkansas.
Ellington expressed gratitude to jurors for their decision in the case. He also praised Walker, the staff of the Mississippi County deputy prosecutor’s office and the Blytheville Police Department for their aggressive prosecution of the case.
“Justice has been served for the victim, his family and the people of Blytheville.” Ellington said.
The defendant was remanded to the custody of Mississippi County Sheriff Dale Cook to await transport to the Arkansas Department of Correction, Ellington said.
