State Police Release More Information on Monticello Shooting

MONTICELLO, AR -- Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division are assisting Monticello police and deputies of the Drew County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation of a domestic disturbance in Monticello that ended in a law enforcement officer involved shooting.

The initial domestic disturbance was reported shortly after 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Following a call received by Monticello Police, local authorities approached a vehicle that turned onto Hyatt Street off Trotter.

Gunshots were reported inside the suspect vehicle. 

Then a local law enforcement officer fired into the car.

The female driver of the car was killed and a male passenger wounded.

Monticello Live reports it was a Drew County Sheriff's deputy that used his weapon.

The officer is on leave pending the outcome of the investigation into the shooting.

Special Agents are awaiting reports from the State Crime Laboratory.

The reports will be used as part of an investigation to determine whether deadly force was used by law enforcement consistent with Arkansas laws.
