Police Make Arrest in 'Fake Beard' Robberies' Case

BENTONVILLE, AR (KNWA) - Police have arrested a man in connection with at least one in a string of robberies around Northwest Arkansas. Investigators say Joseph Thomas Lacefield, age 50, wore a fake beard and robbed the Town Place Suites in Bentonville on May 15th.

They believe this hold up was related to a series of similar robberies including the May 8th robbery at a Rogers Dollar General, the May 13th robbery at the Murphy USA station in Rogers and the May 14th robbery at the Career Academy of Hair Design in Springdale.

Investigators used information and evidence collected in the both the Rogers and Springdale incidents to arrest Lacefield for the Town Place Suites robbery.

Lacefield was arrested Tuesday evening with the help of the Rogers Police Department.

ROGERS, AR (KNWA) - For the second time in several days, Rogers Police Department says a person wore a fake-beard as a disguise during a robbery.

It happened late Tuesday evening at Murphy USA gas station on 2112 West Walnut Street.

Police say a white man wearing blue rain gear, a blue stocking cap, and a fake beard entered the store around 11:30 p.m. He approached the night attendant, demanding she give him money. Police said the man did not show a weapon or make threats.

The attendant gave him the money and he walked out of the store heading west. Deputies with Benton County Sheriff's Officer attempted to track him with dogs but turned up nothing.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and they don't know, at this point, if it is related to the robbery last week at Dollar General, also involving a bearded man.
