Tuesday Night Homicide at Homeless Camp near Downtown Little Rock
LITTLE ROCK, AR - A man has been killed in a homeless camp near downtown and another man who was living there is in custody for the homicide.
That's according to the Little Rock Police Department, which says Leslie Webb, 30, is charged with first degree murder for the Tuesday night stabbing death of Willie Taylor, 45.
It happened around 11:30 along North Street, just off Cantrell Rd. near Union Station.
Police say Webb first told them the victim had woken him up by shining a flashlight in his face and then started hitting him with it. That's when Webb said he used his pocket knife to stab the man until he stopped hitting him.
Webb then tried flagging down cars for help along LaHarpe Boulevard and a patrol car was soon on the scene. Officers noted Webb had injuries on his face and blood on his arms and shirt.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics and gave his pocket knife to officers.
At the camp, officers found a trail of blood that led to Taylor's body.
The incident report notes that the fire department was called to the scene to destroy "any hazardous materials."
Police say detectives later learned the circumstances of the death were different than Webb's first statements, that the meeting was prearranged and the two men knew each other.
