WEST MEMPHIS, Arkansas -
WEST MEMPHIS, AR (localmemphis.com) - Crittenden Regional Hospital has been shutdown until further notice due to a fire this morning.
The fire broke out just before 4 in a room on the second floor.
When West Memphis fire crews arrived on the scene, they saw flames coming from a second story window.
Thankfully, the room didn't have a patient in it, but there was a patient in the room right next door.
Fourteen patients have already been transferred to Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. Of the other 19 patients who were in the hospital, 13 were discharged and 6 were sent to area nursing homes.
The fire damage is contained to one room, but there's smoke and water damage in a large part of the hospital. The emergency room and x-ray department both have water damage.
The hospital says it does expect to see additional emergency room patients and that its staff has already coordinated with the West Memphis Fire Department to ensure they can accommodate any new emergency patients.
