Deputies: Teacher in Monticello Admits Inappropriate Contact with High School Student

MONTICELLO, AR - A local high school teacher is out of jail on bond after being arrested for having inappropriate contact and communication with a 16-year-old female student.

Helen Banks, 57, of Monticello, who teaches at Drew Central High School, was arrested on Wednesday.

Banks was taken into custody by deputies with the Drew County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) and officers with the Arkansas State Police. 

The DCSO says Banks admitted to the allegations while being interviewed by investigators.

She was booked into the Drew County Detention Facility and has since bonded out on a $25,000 commercial bond. 

Banks faces a charge of Sexual Assault in the 2nd degree, a class B felony.
The investigation case file will be sent to Prosecutor Thomas Deen for official charges.
