BRINKLEY, AR - More than 10 inches of rain poured down on eastern Arkansas over the weekend, causing major flooding.

That water poured into dozens of homes.

Driving down New Orleans Ave. in Brinkley Monday there was not a puddle in sight, but on Sunday, the water was knee deep.

With most of the water gone, families have begun to dry out what they salvaged after the water came flooding in late Saturday night.

Yards were filled with large rugs drying, furniture and debris this afternoon. Families had inches of water fill their homes over the weekend and as it drained, they got to work.

But even after working all day, flood victims say this is just the beginning.

"We got a full day left, we are not going to get through today. Just cleaning. It was a mess not only for me but the whole neighborhood," says Billy Linderman.

Monroe County officials say they are working on the flooding issue. They have been meeting with congressmen and representatives, along with engineers trying to create a flood plan, but they say that project will cost anywhere from 30 to 50 million dollars.
