Federal Disaster Declarations Approved for Pulaski, White and Randolph Counties

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Three new counties have just been added to the federal disaster list for the April 27 storms.

Affected residents in Pulaski, Randolph, and White counties can now apply for federal individual assistance.

Before today's announcement, storm victims in Pulaski County had been relying on volunteers for support.

Since the tornado hit off Kanis Rd. near Paron, it's been neighbors helping neighbors.

"Today is the main day that I've just had very few people here, Saturday we had anywhere from 50 to 70,"
says property owner Mike Hendrixon.

Don Griffin says he couldn't even get out of his driveway, if it weren't for a company out of Conway called Southwest Energy.

"Apparently they just took off work, brought all kinds of equipment down here, and obviously you see what they're doing," Griffin says.

Late Monday afternoon, Pulaski County was added to the federal disaster declaration.

"I haven't seen all the devastation cause I've concentrated on my area and my neighbors, but I understand it's terrible," Griffin adds. "We've got just as much damage. I've got anywhere from 200 to 400 trees to a quarter of a mile back there in the woods."

For now, food is coming from volunteers at the American Red Cross and Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church along with Ol' Grouch Bar-B-Que.

"That's what it's all about helping, I'm too old to run a chainsaw anymore, but I can cook," Stan Joyner says.

Everyone's finding their niche and working hard to help the affected residents rebuild and get the job done.
“From Morrilton to Kentucky," says Hendrixon.

Federal Disaster Assistance approved for Arkansans has topped $1 million - and that's just one of several milestones so far.

Victims in Pulaski, Randolph and White counties can call FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 to apply for assistance.

Disaster Response Centers will open in the three additional counties later this week.

A federal disaster declaration was made for Faulkner County last week.
