Federal Judge Strikes Down 12-Week Abortion Law

- LITTLE ROCK, AR - A federal judge Friday struck down Arkansas' law banning abortion at 12-weeks gestation.

The one page ruling from U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright prevents the two key elements of the "Arkansas Human Heartbeat Protection Act" from being enforced, including making abortion illegal when a heartbeat is detected and the fetus has attained 12-weeks gestation.

The ruling also eliminates part of the law that would require the revocation of the medical license for any physician performing an abortion after twelve weeks.

The Arkansas legislature passed Act 301 of 2013 over the veto of Governor Mike Beebe.
