Former Lonoke PD Chief Wife Arrested on Drug Charges
Kelley Campbell, 49.
AUSTIN, AR - A traffic stop has sent a woman who was out of prison on parole back to jail.
The Austin Police Department (APD) says Kelley Campbell, 49, was pulled over for speeding shortly before 6 Monday night at the intersection of East Main and Second St.
When the officer ran a check on Campbell, it revealed she had an expired driver’s license and that she was on parole from the Department of Correction for past drug traffic. The Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) K-9 Unit was then dispatched to the scene.
The APD says LCSO Deputy Michael Davis deployed his partner K-9 (Jasper), who alerted on the car and a subsequent search turned up 25 pills identified to be morphine.
Campbell was taken into custody on a felony charge of possession of a schedule 1 substance. She was also charged with speeding and driving on an expired driver’s license.
She was booked into the Lonoke County Detention Center without incident.
Campbell was sent to prison in 2007, along with her husband, former Lonoke Police Chief Jay Campbell, after their convictions in a corruption case. Both were released after serving more than two years of their sentences.
