FORT SMITH, AR (News release) - The contractor has informed the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department District Four Headquarters at Fort Smith of planned lane closures associated with work to overlay Highway 64 in Van Buren.

Beginning Monday, June 30, lane closures may be expected, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., in either the eastbound or westbound directions of Highway 64 from the Arkansas River Bridge to I-540. No lane closures are anticipated outside of the aforementioned times.

Adjustment of the times of any announced lane closures may become necessary due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.

In April 2014, the Arkansas Highway Commission awarded a contract, in the amount of $1.1 million, to Forsgren Inc. of Fort Smith, Arkansas. The project includes milling of the existing lanes, an asphalt overlay, and striping. Work on the project is expected to be complete in August 2014.

Motorists are urged to use care and think ahead when traveling through the work zone.
