PINE BLUFF, AR -- Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies conduct searches to track down registered sex offenders.
It's called "Operation Sex Offender Residency Enforcement."
Deputies went to the homes of all 85 of the sex offenders registered in the county to make sure they are at the address they reported.
Deputies will make repeated stops at the homes if they don't reach the registered sex offender.
Major Lafayette Woods said this is all being done to keep families and children safe.
"We try to catch them off guard because if they know it's going to be routine when we're going to come then it defeats the purpose of doing this operation," said Woods.
Leaders said about a dozen of the registered sex offenders appear to be non-compliant, but they have a few more things to check before they issue warrants.
