NEWPORT, AR – A kettle of molten steel fell and tipped over, killing a 49-year-old Bald Knob man, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael E. Myers died in the accident. Around 1 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an accident at the Arkansas Steel Associates on Van Dyke Road in Newport.

The initial investigation shows as the kettle was being moved, the cable on the crane system broke. That caused that kettle to fall and spill the molten steel, killing Myers.
