Little Rock Church Celebrates 150 Years

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The Bethel African Methodist Church -- in Little Rock -- celebrated 150 years in the community today.

The former Secretary of Transportation, under President Clinton, gave the keynote speech at the event.

Rodney Slater was once a member of the church.

Slater said, "And when you think about it, this church was coming into existence right at the time of the Emancipation Proclamation and so it's been around since the presidency of the great emancipator to the one who personifies an audacity of hope...President Barack Obama."

During his speech tonight, Mr. Slater talked about the importance of service in the community.

The event was held at the downtown Marriott.
