LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - After a wet weekend here in Little Rock, crowds at Riverfest were down from previous years...
Festival organizers estimate about 125,000 people attended the three-day event this past weekend. That compares with 140,000 over a two-day period in 2016.
In 2015, the last time Riverfest was held over Memorial Day weekend, more than 225,000 people attended in those three days.
Officials believe there are several reasons why attendance is down.
Last year, they created a separate event called Springfest which caters to families. Attendance numbers for Springfest the first year were 15,000 and they nearly doubled in 2017, with close to 30,000 people attending the event.
But, overall, organizers say weather had the biggest impact on Riverfest attendance this year.
"People are not gonna come outside. I mean, who wants to stand in the rain for three days and buy a ticket? So, that's just part of putting on an outdoor event," Deanna Korte, Executive Director of Riverfest, said.
They say they haven't been able to total how much money was brought in, but they expect the weather had an impact on that this year as well.
