29-Year-Old Benton Man Arrested in Conway for Internet Sex Crime

FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. - A Benton man has been arrested in Conway after being accused of trying to meet an underage girl for sex.

Rebecca Conley is a mother to three young children. Although they aren't old enough to use a smartphone or the web, she worries about them falling victim to internet predators.

"Well we've got a unit that is for this," says Faulkner County Sheriff's Office chief deputy, Matt Rice.

On Thursday, Faulkner County deputies arrested Mark Beagle, 29. Deputies say undercover investigators met Beagle in an online chat group where he planned to meet - who he thought was a 15-year-old girl in Conway. "Our investigators were chatting on line started about Monday," he says. "He had asked to meet our investigator who he didn't realize who he was talking to."

This isn't the first time this year. Deputies say they've made 3 total arrests in 2017. Thirty for the previous year. "We want people to know if they come to Faulkner county for this purpose, they will be arrested."

While he says the sheriffs office is hoping to continue catching these predators, he wants parents to inform their kids of the dangers. "Just because you're talking to somebody and they say they're 35 or 15, it doesn't necessarily mean they are."

As a parent, Rebecca will continue to keep an eye on her kids, while deputies keep an eye on online predators. Beagle faces charges of internet stalking of a child, and possession of suspected marijuana at the time of his arrest.
