AR Man Arrested after Firing Rifle at Girlfriend

BAXTER COUNTY, Ark. - A local man has been arrested on an assault charge after deputies investigated a report of domestic violence involving shots being fired.

The Baxter County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) says Christopher Wilson Packley, 34, of Lakeview, was taken into custody Tuesday night at a home in the 800 block of Hickory Flats Lane.

Deputies say a woman they spoke to near the scene told them that she and her boyfriend had been arguing when he threatened her, choked her, and held her down on the floor. The woman said she was holding her son during the incident.

The woman said she was eventually able to escape from Packley and that as she ran from the home, he fired three rifle gunshots in her direction.

The BCSO says Packley admitted firing three rounds from the rifle, but said he fired up in the air and not in the woman's direction. Deputies found and seized a Sig Sauer AR-10 rifle at the scene.

Packley faces charges of Aggravated Assault on Family or Household Member and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. He is being held on $10,000 bond and will appear in Circuit Court on Feb. 23.
