BELLA VISTA, Ark. - An Oklahoma couple has been arrested in Northwest Arkansas for several trailhead vehicle break-ins after police say they were caught stealing a purse from a vehicle at Tanyard Creek (Bella Vista).
The Bella Vista Police Department identifies the suspects as Andrew Phillip Ramalho, 39, and Lacie Jo Wisely, 33, of Stilwell, Oklahoma.
When police stopped their vehicle Monday afternoon on U.S. 71 just north of Riordan Rd., an officer reported seeing a purse on the driver's side floorboard. Police say the woman's 18-month-old child was in the car with them.
Police had been looking into reports of windows being smashed out in cars and items being stolen. One incident happened at the Bear Hollow Trailhead (April 14), one at Blowing Springs Park (April 15) and another at Tanyard Creek (April 17). Police say the couple has been linked to a similar incident in Rogers, and may also be connected to incidents in Prairie Grove and Siloam Springs.
Police said Wiseley admitted to the break-in at Tanyard Creek. Police reported finding other purses and a pry bar in the trunk of the suspects' car, along with a ledger listing names of trailheads in multiple counties in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Both are being held at the Benton County Jail.
Ramalho has been charged with felony breaking or entering and endangering the welfare of a minor, as well as contributing to the delinquency of a minor, theft and theft by receiving, all misdemeanors. He is being held on $15,000 bond.
Wiseley has been charged with accomplice to breaking and entering, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft by receiving. She is being held on $10,000 bond.
The child was brought to the police department and then taken into custody by the Arkansas Department of Human Services.
