PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Two investigations are getting underway into a Nov. 24 incident involving two Correctional Officers who were taken hostage by two inmates in a housing area at the Maximum Security Unit in Tucker (Jefferson County).
An Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) news release issued on Monday states that both the Arkansas State Police and the ADC will be conducting separate investigations.
The release issued on Monday states that the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. and it was over by 7 p.m. when both both officers were released, with minor injuries, following a planned use of force by the Department’s Emergency Response Team.
The Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) says the use of force included the "discharge of less than lethal, and lethal, munitions."
The two officers taken hostage were released with minor lacerations, and were both treated and released from an area hospital later that evening. The two inmates involved in the incident were also taken to an area hospital for the evaluation and treatment of injuries described as not life-threatening and were returned to the ADC early Saturday morning.
