Department of Transportation Meets to Discuss Revenue Funding

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Finding new sources of revenue highlighted the discussion at a department of transportation meeting.

Commissioners looked over figures today.

Numbers revealed that from 1980 to 2016, the transportation department saw only a small increase in revenue.

The general revenue fund saw an increase nearly six times that amount.

Officials are now wanting input on how to make it a little more balanced.

"Had department funding levels kept up with state funding through those years, we would more than enough money to take care of the system that we've got. Remember Arkansas has the 12th-largest largest highway system in the country," Danny Straessle, Public Information Officer for Arkansas Department of Transportation, said.

Officials say proposed legislation next year might play a role in finding a new source of funding.

They are wanting to get feedback from citizens with any ideas.
