The Arkansas Razorbacks run to a SEC Tournament Championship ended on Sunday at the right arm of LSU freshman pitcher Eric Walker losing in their fourth ever title game 4-2.
For the second time this season the Tigers hurler dominated the Razorbacks offense giving up one run on five hits in 7 2/3 innings. Earlier this season he pitched a complete game two hit shutout in Fayetteville to help LSU win the series over Arkansas.
The Razorbacks got on the board first with a third inning solo home run from Eric Cole.
LSU answered with three runs in the top of the fourth after a crucial Jared Gates error. Two of the three Tigers runs were unearned in the inning. LSU tacked on another run in the 6th on a sac fly double play.
The Razorbacks made things interesting in the bottom of the 9th scoring a run on an Eric Cole single. The Tigers intentionally walked Chad Spanberger to load the bases with two outs. Luke Bonfield got a chance to play hero but grounded out to short to preserve the LSU win.
The Razorbacks left ten runners on base while the Tigers stranded only three.
Arkansas is now 0-4 in SEC Tournament Championship games while the Tigers picked up their 12th title.
Arkansas heads into the NCAA Regionals next weekend with a 42-17 record and should host a regional at Baum Stadium for the first time since 2010. The announcement of regional sites comes at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. The full field will be announced at 11 a.m. on Monday airing on ESPN2.
