El Dorado Man Arrested on Murder Charge

EL DORADO, Ark. (KTVE) - A local man has been arrested on a murder charge in an incident from last week.

Curtis Lumsey, 37, is charged with killing Brian Smith, 27, of Crossett.

Police say it happened around midnight Friday at a home on W. 1st Street, where Smith was found lying in the front doorway with two wounds, one on the upper left shoulder and the other in the abdomen.

Lumsey is being held at the Union County Jail and is charged with Murder 1st Degree, Felony with Firearm and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

"It's tragic, you know, we nearly went two months before we had our first one, and anytime you have a homicide, it's a tragedy for all sides," said Captain Kevin Holt, El Dorado Police Department. "Not only the victim but the suspect."

Smith's body is at the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine what caused his deadly wounds.

Police say the homicide is the city's first of the year.
