LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Former Arkansas football coach Bret Bielema will get a buyout of nearly $12 million, according to ESPN Senior Writer Mark Schlabach.
The $11.8 million buyout would cover the final three years of his contract.
Schlabach reports some members of Arkansas’ board of trustees thought the buyout should be as low as $5 million. However, Bielema’s attorney argued the buyout amount was $15.4 million. The sides settled on $11.8 million.
ESPN's Darren Rovell added that the total cost of Bielema to Arkansas over five seasons will be $30.5 million.
Bielema's buyout could be reduced in the event he receives another head coaching position.
Schlabach says the deal should be executed in the next few days.
