NEWPORT, Ark. - A local police officer who died in the line of duty Monday night has been honored in a funeral service.
An overflow crowd numbering about 1,100 gathered Friday morning at Jackson's Funeral Home in Newport to remember Lt. Patrick Weatherford, 41, who was shot to death during a foot chase. The service was broadcast via live stream on the funeral home's Facebook page (click here to watch).
Officers saluted and stood at attention and bag pipes played as the officer's family arrived at the service.
Law enforcement officers from around the state and other parts of the country were in attendance for the service that lasted about two hours.
People from businesses in the community gathered to pay their respects to the fallen officer along the procession route.
