LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- A local man arrested in the Dec. 2016 shooting death of a three-year-old boy has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental defect.
Gary Holmes, 33, was in Pulaski County Circuit Court Thursday morning to answer charges in the incident on the southwest side of town that police have said was a case of road rage.
Acen King, who was riding in the back seat of his grandmother's car, died in the shooting. Kim King-Macon told us this week that she had looked into the back seat to see if Acen and his younger brother were okay before she drove on to a shopping center several miles away, only to discover Acen had been hit by the gunfire.
Also during Thursday's court appearance for Holmes, a date for a mental evaluation was set but the judge did not allow him bond.
Holmes was arrested in the case five days after it happened on charges of Capital Murder and Terroristic Act.
