New Details Emerge in City Bus Accident, Victim Identified


LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - New details are being released, including the identity of the pedestrian fatality, in a city bus accident that happened Friday, April 14.

Police identified the pedestrian killed as Christopher Kiaer, 56, of Little Rock. 

The accident happened near the intersection of S. Maple Street and W. Roosevelt Road.

The police report lists that Kiaer was "improperly in a roadway" and also lists suspected alcohol usage from a toxicology report done on him. 

The bus driver, Artheria Williams, said he had stopped to drop off some passengers when an intoxicated man came up to the bus. Williams said he told the man he could not get on the bus because he was drunk. Williams said he told the man to step back, and then continued along his route on Roosevelt Road.

A passenger, identified as Secily Lowery, then reportedly alerted Williams that the man had fallen under the bus. Williams said he immediately stopped and called 911. 

Williams was tested and did not appear to be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. He was not charged in Kiaer's death.

Lowery told police she saw Kiaer struggling to keep his balance at the bus stop. She got off the bus, and saw Lowery attempting to get on. She said he knocked on the bus door a few times, then stepped back as he was told. However, as the bus started moving, she said she saw Kiaer fall under the bus. She said he was run over by the rear wheels of the bus. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

No other injuries were reported.

Surveillance video backed up both Williams' and Lowery's statements. 


LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- A man is dead after a pedestrian accident involving a city bus.

Police are on scene of a fatal pedestrian accident along Roosevelt and Maple Street. Officers responded just before 5 p.m. to find a Rock City Metro bus involved.

According to police, the man had attempted to board the bus, but wasn't allowed on by the driver, The bus pulled away then the driver noticed the man had been hit.

The name of the man has not been released. Police are working to interview the passengers.
