North Little Rock Beats Bentonville to Earn 7A State Title

School's first state championship win in 45 years

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The North Little Rock Charging Wildcats managed to beat out the Bentonville Tigers to win the 7A State Championship at War Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon. The final score was 44-37.

This one could be best described as a heavyweight battle that went back and forth until the very end. The two teams traded touchdowns and leads throughout the action-packed game.

A defensive takeaway with 3:49 left in the game may have been the difference maker for North Little Rock.  A Bentonville fumble broke the back-and-forth scoring streak and allowed the Charging Wildcats to take a 14-point lead.

Bentonville managed to fire back with a touchdown and recover an onside kick with just :17 seconds left on the clock. Down by seven, Bentonville had the ball inside the 10-yard line with :02 left on the clock.  However, time expired before they could put it in the endzone.

This is North Little Rock's first state championship since 1972.
