Push to Change Little Rock's City Board of Directors is Moving Ahead

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A push to make major changes to Little Rock's City Board of Directors is moving ahead.

Right now the board has seven members representing each of the city's seven wards.

And three members who represent the entire city.

City Director Erma Hendrix has been pushing to get rid of the three at-large seats.

She says by doing so, the city board would more closely resemble Little Rock's racial make-up.

Hendrix wants the board to put the issue to voters this November and says she won't stop if they say no.

"I have suggested to the board that if they feel that it is not necessary to pass this, then you are gonna cost the city some money. Because I will be going to federal court," says Little Rock City Director Erma Hendrix (Ward 1).

The issue came up for brief discussion during today's agenda setting meeting and should get a full hearing next Tuesday.
